HOW IT ALL STARTED

BAGO ANG LAHAT.....

I am a  graduate of Southern Rizal Institute - a high school academic institution in our small town of Pateros, Metro Manila. I belong to Batch 88 which has a close to 2,000 students. Ganyan kami noon karami!

SRI Batch 88 "BATCH KO 'TO, PROUD AKO! After 22 years, we had our first reunion last May 1, 2010. There, I happen to be elected as the President of my batch. 

Si Onnie, isa mga kabatch ko, nag private message sa akin dahil sa isang umiingay na pagyaya ng mga ibang batches, na MAGKAROON SANA NG GRAND REUNION. Ibinigay niya ang link ng FB group page which was created by Valerie who has a successful career in Singapore.

When I  was added in the group, I was the 1,324th member. Today, as I write this, we are 3,448 already in that group page. Indeed, for a common interest and school, another segment of society is formed thru facebook.
         And this how it all started....


JULY 2, 2011: The first meeting  was held at Lakeview Manors Clubhouse, Ususan, Taguig. This meeting was brought by series of encouragements from different batches to come together and organize a Grand Reunion. The meeting was initiated by Mr. Angel Santamaria Mercado, Ms. Rossana Labra & Mr. Bernadette Magtulis. The meeting ended up with  unanimous decisions to have the first Grand Reuinion by first week of January in a venue very close to Pateros, or accessible to attendees. Election of officers was deferred to next and, instead, submitted names of representatives per batch, who will be invited for July 10 meeting.

JULY 10, 2011: The second  meeting  with SRI Grand Alumni Representatives held at Brgy. San Roque Covered Court, Pateros  facilitated by Mr.Jurie Roa, Joel Mallorca and Madeth Cruz. JULY 17, 2011: Third  meeting  with elected officers and committee heads and members was held in Ms. Emma Mercado Manalo’s residence. Presided by the elected chairman Angel Santamaria Mercado, the meeting was organizing and aligning all assignments pertaining to preparation for the Grand Reunion.

3.      Initial Steps

A.     To secure SEC Registration with the working name: SOUTHERN RIZAL INSTITUTE ALUMNI COMMUNITY, INC. (SRI - ACI) giving the our group a corporate personality. As of this meeting, Atty. DANILO DE GUZMAN-  a SRI alumna, already  made a reservation at SEC for this application

B.     After the SEC,  our group is to open our official bank account, followed by securing permit to print receipts.

C.     Atty. Danilo de Guzman being head of the legal matters shall be assisted by Rosanna Labra.

4.      Finance: Process Flow
A.     Emma Mercado being the head of Finance committee shall be the recommending approval for any releases/ disbursement and the signatory is Donne Tan- one of the chairmen of the group. Emma will get ready with basic books and journals for upcoming transactions of the group. A financial report will be a regular part of all meetings.

5.      Sourcing of Funds:
A.     INITIAL Fund: there is an urgent need funding for the initial works of the group, such as SEC application, registration and legal documentation requirements. The group agreed to dole out one thousand pesos (P1, 000.00) per batch.  The following batches gave the following: Batch '79 - 1K , '86 - 1K , '90 - 1K, '94 - 1K, '98 - 3K
As this is just an initial, Jurie Roa was assigned to receive this batch contributions until July 22- Friday, 2011

B.     PLEDGES:  The group agreed to target worth Php 20,000.00 for each batch to work. The presidents or representatives of each batch shall meet their respective group to reach the target pledge.

The group will issue an official solicitation letter that will be used by all batches. This letter shall have serial number for monitoring and control.  All cash donations shall be receipted.

C.     MARKETING & PROMOTION:   The group decided to create a separate committee who shall be working on fund generating potentials of this event. The following income-generating potentials were mentioned and considered:
                                                                          i.      Food & Beverage Concessionaires  (during the event)
                                                                        ii.      Trade Booths/ Exhibits (during the event)
                                                                      iii.      Souvenir Program Advertisement
                                                                      iv.      Sponsorships
                                                                         v.      among others
The group voted Rey Laboy to spearhead the Marketing & Promotion Committee.  This committee will present their proposals, target business and business owners and other marketing milestone.


6.      Managing the Issuance of Information or Communication:

A.     It was observed that the present FB Group became the venue of varied suggestions, opinions and other expressions. It created excitement among alumni members which has nearly 3,000 friends. Due to this number, it cannot be edited to a closed group.

B.     The group decided to centralize the issuance of any information/ statements regarding the SRI Grand Reunion. Jurie Roa and Madeth Cruz were assigned to be the officers to issue all communication and announcements related to the event.

C.     A new FB Group is also to be created for the executive committee communication.

7.      Target Setting:

A.     EVENT:     Target date of the Grand Reunion is on the 7th January 2012. If venues will not be available on this specific date, any date on January is agreed by the group.

B.     VENUE:                Target venue is any venue closed to Pateros as long as it can accommodate the assumed 3k attendees, with enough facilities such as parking, comfort rooms among others.  Joey de Larra and Joel Mallorca agreed to scout for the venues and to make their recommendation by July 22- Friday.  

C.     THEME:    After considering a lot of suggestions, the chosen theme is                                   SALAMAT S.R.I!    Pagbabalik- tanaw at Pagpupugay   
Joel and Jurie will derive a set of  criteria for the LOGO  Contest and the executive committee will be the judges in choosing the winning logo  

D.      TIME:       2pm onwards (an estimate of 10 hours duration)

E.      DOCUMENTARY:      The group decided to create a documentary video of historical accounts of the SRI. Bernadette Magtulis was voted to head the Historical Research Committee.
